[00:01:20] Speaker C: Hello everyone. Welcome to the it's all for Love podcast. I'm Cheryl Mazza, the healing dancer and today we have Jenny from Hagen, Germany with us to talk about Michael. Jenny is 43 years young, single and happy, and she loves Michael and the Jackson family, spending time with her family and friends, reading and traveling mostly on Michael's footsteps. And she has been leading the German Michael Jackson fan club called Malibu since 2013. And her day job is working as a paralegal. So welcome, Jenny, to the podcast.
[00:01:57] Speaker A: Yeah, thank you so much. Thank you. And I'm glad you have me here and I'm so happy to be here. So, yeah. Hi, everyone.
[00:02:06] Speaker C: Hi. Welcome.
So I always like to start off with the. The first question is, tell me, how did you discover Michael or how did he strike you in the heart?
[00:02:17] Speaker A: Oh, it was long, long ago. It was 1992. I was 11 years old. And it was the Dangerous album that hit me in my heart. And it was my uncle who gave it to me. And I jumped in my bedroom, in my. In my room. And then I played the Dangerous album on cassette and it. It completely, yeah, took everything away from me. It was so mesmerizing and so beautiful to me. And it's funny because I always skip the first songs on the album, like Jam and the. The next songs I loved Heal the World More and who Is It? And now two decades later or three decades. Yes. I love the first songs on the album more than the other ones. Yeah. So. But I always loved this album. And after hearing Dangerous, I went to my parents and asked them, who is Michael Jackson? Who is he and how is he looking? And because I always. I only saw the eyes of Michael on the COVID of course. And I wanted to see who is it? Who's the person behind the album? And my mom took papers and books and searched for Michael because we did not have any Internet connection, of course, was no Internet. And she showed me some pictures of Michael in our daily papers and. Yeah. And I was completely. Yeah, it. It happened that I loved him so much. And they gave it. They gave all the albums after that to me, like off the Wall and Thriller, and they bought it for me. All the albums before Dangerous and. Yeah. So I discovered Michael at the age of 11. Yeah.
[00:04:11] Speaker C: Wow. Wow. Yeah, that's a great story. I love that Dangerous album too.
Just so many great songs.
[00:04:20] Speaker A: It's still my favorite album. It's still my favorite album because, yes, I can play it from the beginning to the end, and I. I will not skip any song. So I love it still till today. And I think it's still. Still relevant and still so good. Yeah, I love it. And the artwork for the COVID of course. I still love it.
[00:04:42] Speaker C: Yeah. And you mentioned those eyes, right?
[00:04:44] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:45] Speaker C: That's one of my favorite pictures. I just love, like, seeing pictures of Michael's eyes.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: Yeah. So beautiful.
[00:04:53] Speaker C: Dark eyes.
[00:04:54] Speaker A: Yes. Yes.
[00:04:57] Speaker C: How has Michael inspired you throughout your life every time?
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Because. Yeah, I think everyone has some times in life that are difficult and heavy and not so.
Yeah. It's not always, like, fun and life is beautiful. It's also the dark parts in life, and he's always there and he is always with me in my happy times, of course. But if I have the dark times and not so good times, Michael is there so much more. Because I always remember his trial. And after that I thought, okay, I can go through anything because Michael did it at the trial. That was my.
My thing to think about all of my life. Because if I lost a job or got sick or something, that doesn't matter. I always thought about, okay, you can go through it, because Michael did it at the trial. It was much worse for me, in my opinion, than my problems. So he always guided me through the dark times, and I'm so thankful for this. And he. He is the reason I have most of my friends in my life. Because most of them are Michael fans. And yeah, we. We are so close. And of course it's more than Michael now because we are friends for so many years, but the beginning was because of Michael and we are connected because of Michael, and I'm so thankful for them as well.
Yeah. And Michael is still here and he still guided me through all the dark times, even through the pandemic.
So I was sitting at home because we were not. Not able to go to work, and I was sitting alone at home and I had Michael and I had the community and I had my friends to chat with and we had zooms and other possibilities to go to get in contact and to get connected because of Michael and to think about.
Yeah. Or to talk about nice topics. Not only the pandemic. We. Yeah, we always were there and were together through the Internet. It's so cool. And yeah, he helped me through the pandemic as well. Yeah, every time. Every time.
[00:07:37] Speaker C: Michael is definitely a great one to help us get through difficult times because he showed us how.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: And even when I'm happy, so when I hear his music, I'm much more happy. So it's always. He's always there and he's. Yeah, he's with me in my bad times and in my good times as well. When I'm happy, I'm more happy when I'm with my Michael friends and at Michael places. Yeah, that's my thing to do. I love it. It's my, My guilty pleasure.
[00:08:17] Speaker C: You have any Michael Jackson synchronicities? Like, does he magically show up in your life?
[00:08:22] Speaker A: Yes, always. It's always like, even if I go to a supermarket or I go in the car and I put the. I start the car and Michael is. Is playing. And I thought, okay, what CD have I on or. Or what stick? But it's the radio. It's always radio. And I think, okay, he's there again. But I go into a supermarket and I hear some.
Some music. And I thought, okay, it's Michael. Can it be? Yeah, it's Michael always. Or when I'm in stress, in my job, or when I'm get very busy, some of my colleagues tell me, Michael, Michael is playing at the radio. And I thought, okay, he's with me. He brings me down always. And the most incredible moments I had at. In the us in la, when I'm at Neverland or at Forest Lawn, there were so many magical moments, like butterflies were sitting on my arm or something like this. And I thought, okay, it's Michael. It has to be him. And to. To be in his presence in on this.
On this vacation. It's. It's so magical. Yeah, it's magical. And it's the reason I always come back to la, because I can be so near to him. It's. Yeah, it's so beautiful for me. To. Me and to. To meet up with all the fans from all over the world. We are not native English speakers because, like, there are. There are people from India, from Japan, from. From everywhere. And we, and we. Yeah, we are connected because of Michael, even if we cannot talk so much to each other because of the language thing. But yeah, it's so beautiful. And I think he's always there with us and see us and is smiling and maybe he's thinking, oh, it's. It's still the same.
[00:10:27] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:10:28] Speaker A: As I was there, they. They are still together. Yeah. And this is magical for me. This are. These are my Michael moments, mostly. Yeah.
[00:10:37] Speaker C: Gosh, I can definitely agree with what you're talking about. I've been to LA once and I. The Neverland thing and the energy in those places, just like you can feel him everywhere.
[00:10:54] Speaker A: It's crazy. Yeah.
[00:10:55] Speaker C: Magical.
[00:10:56] Speaker A: Magical. Really.
[00:10:58] Speaker C: Yeah, it was like lots of chills. It just. And then you just feel like, at peace and. Yes. Like meeting all the other fans that are from all over the world and.
Yeah.
[00:11:08] Speaker A: You have the feeling he's still around when you're with other people who love him so much, there's a huge energy then. Yeah.
[00:11:17] Speaker C: Yeah. And that's one of my favorite things about Michael is how he brought all of us together, you know, other words, we would not have ever met because.
[00:11:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
And he's also the reason I love people in general, because he loved them still. They were so ugly to him and he went through so much ugly stuff in his life and he still loved people. He always said it. And yeah, for. For this. I always go and go out and try to meet people and to connect with them and smile at them. I'm always smiling at people. Sometimes I think they say I'm crazy or something, but I always smile at people and it makes me happy when they smile back. But maybe they have a not so good day and if someone is smiling at you and you're smiling, it's a minute of joy. And. Yeah, maybe these are the little differences in. In life that makes life better, I think. And it's from Michael. I. I do it because of Michael. One of the main reasons for me. Yeah.
[00:12:35] Speaker C: Beautiful. Do you have a favorite song?
[00:12:40] Speaker A: Oh, it's so difficult to Choose.
It's. It's a lie if I say I love them all. They're defin songs. I'm not so into it. It's okay, but there are so many songs I love. But it depends on my. On my mood, on my feelings. If I'm in a darker mood or sad mood, I'm playing other songs than. If I'm two days before my vacation or something like this, then I'm hyped and I'm happy and I'm playing other songs then.
But my all time favorite or one of my all time favorites is who is It?
I love this song. Since I first heard the Dangerous album at the age of 11. I always loved this song. His ad libs and everything around it. I love it so much. And I think it's Michael.
It's a completely typical Michael song. It's him.
But I also love the Invincible album.
Many of the fans say, oh, not Invincible. I'm not so into it. Yes, I can understand it. It's different from the other albums but there are so many beautif beautiful songs on this for me and yeah, I. I love whatever happens. I love Speechless. So many great songs on it and. Yeah, but who is it? I think it's my all time favorite.
[00:14:05] Speaker C: Yeah, love that song. That is great song.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: Yeah, but I love. Of course I love all the songs like Last song, Men in the Mirror, We Are the World as songs with a meaning. I think he's one of the few artists who have so many songs with a meaning.
Yeah, this I love. And our song was so huge here in Germany. It was his first number one song in Germany.
But it was so huge and yeah, I was so excited because he was on a German television show, Wettendas with Thomas Gottschalk. It was a huge show in Germany and he went to. So yeah, he. He never was in TV shows.
[00:14:54] Speaker C: Right.
[00:14:55] Speaker A: But he was in, in Germany in. In our show and it was so excited for me to sit in front of the TV with my parents and we saw Michael in our television program. It was so amazing. And he performed the Earth song for the first time. So yeah, it was a very special moment for me as well because of this. I love the Earth song still. Yeah, one of my favorite as well.
[00:15:23] Speaker C: That's amazing.
Favorite video or short film?
[00:15:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it's the same. There's so many great ones, but I think.
I think Smooth Criminal is a masterpiece because of the dancing. It is so on point and it's so. It's still fresh to see if you show it to a 14 year old, he still says, oh, that's cool, that's great. It's still fresh.
Yeah, this, Remember the time is beautiful. It was so, so much ahead of its time with the special effects. Love it so much. Yeah, I think these are. And Ghosts, the whole film, the whole short film. Love it so much. His look there, what he has on the story, everything is so beautiful and I prefer if I have to choose between Thriller and Ghost. I always say Ghosts. I know Thriller is a masterpiece and it's so iconic, of course, but I love.
Because he's so elegant in, in, in. In Ghosts. And I love how he looked and how he danced and so beautiful. Love it.
[00:16:44] Speaker C: Now Ghost is great. I watched them both Halloween. But that ghost. Yeah. And I love how he played like what is it, three different parts or something like that.
[00:16:55] Speaker A: Yes. And it's so underrated. So there's so not so many people who know the short film Ghosts and it's so great to show them. I have a friend who is into horror movies and we were into my home and I told him, yeah, do you know the horror movie of Michael Jason? The. The movie? And he said, yes, Thriller. And I said, there's another one, it's like a longer one in his early, in his later years. And he said, okay, please show me. And then I showed him Ghosts in full length and he was so mesmerized. He said, oh, that's one cool movie. I love it so much. Why did I not I not knew about this before? And I said to him, yeah, it's not so popular than, than Thriller. Of course, it's always the Thriller album and it's always the things from Thriller that are mostly played. But I think it's a masterpiece from the songs from the dance, from the outfits. I love it.
[00:17:57] Speaker C: Yes, yes.
So recently you went to the Michael Jackson musical in what was it? Hamburg, Germany.
So I want you to tell us about that.
[00:18:12] Speaker A: Yeah, we went there two times and it was the first preview in the end of November and we had a special for 50 people of our fan club. We went with 50 people and we got a discount from, from the production team for the 50 people. And then at the arena or at the theater we had a.
Oh, what is, what is the word? It is an area, an area for us, only for us with free drinks and everything like this. They did it for us and we all got a pin, a Michael Jackson pin. And it is at, at $10 at the shop and we got it for free for all of the 50 people.
That was really, really cool. And it was really nice to give the people from the fan club the opportunity to be one of the first fans to see this and to get the area for us and to get the specials. And after the show we were able to meet one of the characters, one of the people who played Michael there.
That was really amazing. And yes, and we all saw the show for the first time. The. The Hamburg show. Yes. And for most of them it was the first time. In general, not so many of them saw it in.
Would have seen it in London or New York, but for me it was the third time.
Yeah, but all of them were so happy and all of them liked it. It's always difficult because if it's Michael, there are always fans who are very, very critical, very, very critical. And many fans always say, ah, that was not so good. And I would have do it better then, or. But this time everyone was hyped. They were also happy and they were so glad that we went. And one week later, I was with six people for the premiere. It was the official premiere with the press and with VIPs. German, German stars on the red carpet. And we were there also. We were invited by the production team. Was such an honor. And yeah, it was different than the first preview because it was so big because of the press and it was all lightened up and all of them were in suits and dresses and really, really cool. We also had dresses on and suits on. And yeah, it was really, really cool. I went with my mom, I took them with me. I had the chance to go with plus one and it was my mom and she was so happy. Yeah, we had a great time at both. Both events. It's a great music, really. But as I told you before, our video, it was very, very funny for me to hear it in German, because the Hamburg musical is in German. German language. The songs are in English, of course, but it would be funny to sing it in German.
But the dialogues, the speaking parts are German. It's very funny to hear Michael and his parents and all of the people speaking German, but you get into it. It's great for those people who cannot speak English or do not understand English, to follow the story and to understand what it's about. So I liked it.
[00:21:50] Speaker C: Yeah, sounds like a great experience.
[00:21:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it was really great because. Because the story is so good. You learn so much about Michael and I love that they talk about his vitiligo, his disease and. Yeah, and all of this, his trouble and his.
It was always difficult with the media and this is one huge part of the musical. They explain why it was this way and they tell about his conn to his father, how difficult it was with his family and as he started to go solo, how many problems he had with it and how many people told him this. And then there were some people told him that and he was in the middle and has to decide all of this. It is really, really cool. And I loved the story around it so much. And they had. They are really, really great dancers, of course. Singers. Yeah. Love it.
[00:22:54] Speaker C: Yeah, no, it's. It's a great, A great production.
I've seen it once also when I was in California, in San Francisco.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: Oh, cool.
[00:23:05] Speaker C: Yeah. And it's coming to close to me in a town or called Philadelphia in cool January. So I'm going again. I can't wait to like.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Yay.
[00:23:16] Speaker C: Again.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah.
[00:23:18] Speaker C: The parts that I missed the first time, you know, or something like that.
[00:23:22] Speaker A: I was so glad that I was. Two times.
It was at the end of November the first time and in the beginning of December the second time. And I was so glad about it because the second time I realized more of the little things the first time I was so overwhelmed and we were yelling and dancing. And the second time, the second time I was more into the little things and I realized more of the, the, the things they, they did behind the, the meme character. There were always things going on and I realized that more the second time.
[00:24:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:24:02] Speaker A: So. And I go back, of course, because it's only a four hour drive by car from my home, so I will definitely come back in. In spring, I think, because it was so cold and in Hamburg when we were there. But it, it was, it was so great. It was so great. Yeah.
[00:24:20] Speaker C: Thank you for sharing that.
[00:24:22] Speaker A: Yeah, of course. You have to go in.
[00:24:25] Speaker C: What was that?
[00:24:27] Speaker A: All of you have to go. If you have the, the opportunity to go, please go. It's really worth it.
[00:24:33] Speaker C: It is, it is. It's a great show. It's really great. The Dancing Spectacular.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:39] Speaker C: So I wanted to ask you also about the fan club and how you started.
[00:24:47] Speaker A: It was. It was before Michael's. Michael passed away.
I was part of the fan club then and we had a forum where people were able to write topics and to go to or to open threads and everything like this. It was a big thing then the forums and I was one of the moderators to see if everything is going good and if something is there who we are not allowed to go in. And yeah, so this, this was my job to go into the forum and to moderate it. And then a few years later, Michael passed away. And we thought, okay, how it is going on with our fan club? Can we still do it?
Is there people who want us to do the job and, and to. In to our lives through the fan club? Because he passed away. It was, it was such a weird time, but we said, okay, now we have to, we have to go and to spread his message and to keep the fan club alive. And shortly after this, the fan club, the. The leader of the fan club called Maya Gabrielle, she told me she had to study in another city and she had to move and she had no time to do the fan club work. And she asked me, would you do it? And would you lead the fan club for the next years? And, And I thought, okay, yeah, maybe I will do this. I try, I try. And after this, I had so much fun doing this. We had so many great events in Germany and we had a magazine back then, but not, not anymore. Because yeah, of course the social media, they are always ahead with news. If we print our magazine, it's always weeks ahead.
Then the news are much more. Yeah, it's. It's faster now than it was in 2009 or 10 because of the social media things.
But we also had always our raffles. We have raffles where we give away books, new book books or CDs, vinyls and tickets for shows. And we always have meetups. We go into a restaurant and eat together or have new New Year events to say hello to the other fans. So we meet at a cafe or restaurant. We meet it. We. We rent it for the fans.
Yeah. And also we are going to. Yeah. On Michael Foots and Michael's footsteps. We're traveling a lot also with the fans from the fan club. Once we were 16, people go into LA and we showed them around because there are always people who say, oh, I have nobody who comes with me and to do the traveling. And then they are with us. That's cool.
Yeah. And our events, of course, are very, very, very nice. It's so much work. Of course, I'm always exhausted after such events because you have to do so many things. There are insurances you have to do and all of this stuff and you have securities and, and you have to pay for the music you play and all of this stuff.
And in Germany, it's, it's, it's so. It's. It's the nightmare to do something like this because we have so many rules. Yeah. But I love it, I love it. To do it. For the fans and I love them smiling and to meet up and to build friendships and it's always great. I love it and I do it since 2013. Now it's 11 years. It's a long time. At the beginning I thought, okay, you can do it three or four years and then someone else is coming. But now I'm still there and it's still so much fun. And yeah, I love it. And the. The last two or three years, yeah, we, we were growing because we are on Instagram. At first we were only on Facebook and now we are on Instagram and now we have a YouTube channel as well for the traveling vlogs. And we also have guests in our. On our YouTube channel and we talk about all things Michael. Because one of my biggest this inspirations was mjfangirl tv. I love to see her videos and I thought, okay, you have to do something like this for the German fan community.
And yeah, it's so much fun. Love it.
[00:29:34] Speaker C: Awesome. Yeah, I want to have her on the podcast too. So I have to reach out to her.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: Yeah, she's amazing. I met her many times now in person and she's such a nice person.
[00:29:45] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:29:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:46] Speaker C: Yeah, I met her in LA too.
[00:29:48] Speaker A: So yeah. Yeah. Awesome.
[00:29:50] Speaker C: So how does Michael continue to spread love in your world?
[00:29:58] Speaker A: In my world. Oh, yeah. I think because of my friendships. Always when I meet up with my Michael friends, there's so much love in the room. I love it. And yeah, and we are always happy. People say if I speak about Michael, I have this look in my face and the stars in my eyes. So, yeah, I think it's. He's still with me and his love is always around me and around my fan friends and of course in my life. And if I see him appearing in the. In the TV or I hear him in. In on the radio, I always think, okay, people, please hear him. Please understand his words.
Google him, please. Yeah, Check out what he has done for the world, for the people. Please learn about him. Yeah, I always try to educate people. Yeah. If I have a T shirt on a Michael T shirt and something is telling me, and someone is telling me, how can you wear it? Did you not know about the things they say about him?
I have to breathe.
[00:31:14] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: And calm down. And then I tell them, please search for him, please go to this website, please go there and please read this. And some of them do this and they reach out for me and say, okay, you were right, I was wrong. I was there three times. Three, three days in a row to Google him and to research. And now I'm sure that he was completely innocent. And thank you for the, for the advice and for the. Yeah. That you told us about it. And this is what my. What makes me happy. I think this is love. To tell people to. Yeah. To research and to learn more about him and to see that this man was full of love. That he was love for me. He's the.
Yeah. He's. He's my.
My love at a. My picture of love as a human. He was love for me. And. Yeah. And I always tell them to research and to see who. How he. Who he was. And as. Yeah. I always am angry when I think about the leaving Neverland thing. But I have friends, fan friends since then because they watched it and they were not fans and they saw it on TV and after that they were so sad because they thought okay, he was an icon and he was a monster. How does it fit? And then they were sitting down and researched and then it was clear to them, okay, it was a lie. And now I am a fan. There was a 60 years old woman who I met because of the leaving Neverland thing and she became a huge fan after leaving Neverland because she did so much, much research for Michael about Michael and she's now a fan because of this ugly stuff. And I think this is love. Michael comes always through. And yeah, if you take the time to research and to Google about him or to read about him, it's clear after five minutes that yeah. That it was all a lie. And it. Yeah. But there are so many people outside who will not do this. But for this two or three I can convince to research about him and to see his real face.
Yeah. Then it's. It's good and I'm happy about it. Yeah. And this is love. I think if you share it and you can spread it with other people, not only the fans because they already love him, but the other people around. I think it's very important to spread the love.
[00:34:21] Speaker C: Yeah, I agree. I mean there's. There's a lot of people out there that know of Michael but they don't know his heart. Like.
[00:34:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:34:29] Speaker C: Just never, you know, looked into it or, or really understood all of the other things that he has done with his life. You know, the humanitarian person he was and you know, they just don't know. And then when they find out.
[00:34:44] Speaker A: I have so much hope for the biopic, for the upcoming biopic. That there are so many.
Yeah. That. That. That they show what he did. That there are. So that there are Huge parts of his humanitarian efforts. I hope, I hope this will be like this. Of course they have to speak of all the topics. It has to. Everything has to be in it. But they have to focus as well on his humanitarian efforts because he did so much and so not so many people know about this. And this is what makes me sad. Of course they always say, yeah, he had great songs, he had been Jean and yeah, but as a human.
And I always tell them, and I love him because, because of him. Of course I love his music, but I love the person, I love the human being. Michael Jackson, they always say, okay, really?
And then I tell them what he did and he's in Guinness Book of Records because of the most charity things pop star ever did. And most of them tell me, okay, I did not know that. And yeah, that's cool. And I always tell them to go on Paul Dwyer's YouTube channel and to watch the documentary and to see the episodes of his podcast because I think it's so important what he is doing for Michael's humanitarian things to share and I hope for the biopic they focus on this as well.
[00:36:22] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:36:25] Speaker A: Because so many people will see this. It will be a huge, huge amount of people who see it worldwide. And I think it can really make a difference.
[00:36:35] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Was there anything else that you want the world to know about Michael?
[00:36:41] Speaker A: Yeah, my hope is that they. That in a few years or maybe in decades, when you hear the name Michael Jackson, you think about him as a really, really humble and lovely human being with such a great talent, with not the ugly things in mind at first.
Instead, you have to think about him as a shining star who did so much for the world, for the nature, for the people, for the children. I hope that the generations after, after us, see him like this and not with the shadow, with the shadow over his legacy. That makes me sad that often you see a great article about the musical, for example, and I thought, oh, yeah, cool, they write very nice about it. And at the end you see, okay, but There was in 1993 and there was in 1990 or 2004 and there were the accusations. And you have to have this in mind. And I always think, okay, can you not only write one article, only focused of his on his music and his work. And why has it always to be this last sentence? Why? Because everyone has to make his own picture of Michael. And it's so important for the media not to spread always to the sad things and the ugly things. They have to be neutral. They have to Be not on this side or not on this side. They have to be in between. And the people have to make their own pictures and their own decisions what to think about him. But they always try to lead the people in the wrong way. And this is what makes me angry.
And I hope in a few years or decades, I don't know when, but then that this is not so much into focus anymore. Maybe after the biopic it will get better. We have to see. I have not so many bad experiences about Michael. When I wear T shirts or something like this, the most people are very, very friendly and ask me about him and tell me, oh, I went to a concert in or something like this or yeah, I love Smooth Criminal or this makes me happy. And I hope it. Yeah. That more people try to find out about him, how he really was. That's my wish.
[00:39:33] Speaker C: Thank you so much for sharing with us and talking with me.
[00:39:38] Speaker A: Of course. Michael. I apologize for my English because it's not my native language, but I hope you can understand me and you see what I mean.
[00:39:48] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. No.
[00:39:49] Speaker A: You okay?
[00:39:50] Speaker C: You are fine. Everything came out.
[00:39:52] Speaker A: Thank you so much.
