Show Notes

In this heartfelt episode of It’s All for LOVE, Cheryl is joined by Svea Johnson, a college student and artist from Tacoma, Washington State. Cheryl and Svea share a powerful conversation about how Michael Jackson’s presence has shaped their lives — from spiritual awakenings to synchronicities that can only be described as divine.

Svea opens up about discovering MJ at a pivotal time in her life, how his energy helped her through personal challenges, and the inspiration he continues to bring to her art.

They talk about stargazing at Neverland, synchronicities that brought comfort during moments of doubt, and the sacred power of Michael’s music — especially songs like “Someone in the Dark.”

This episode is a beautiful reminder that love, creativity, and healing are all connected, and that Michael’s message continues to live on in the hearts of his fans.

In this episode:

“Celebrities are people too, and Michael is a lot of things — but most importantly, he was human. And he was love.”– Svea

Today we have the awesome Svea Johnson with us from Tacoma, Washington State. Z is a college student and an inspiring artist and writer. So welcome Svea. [00:02:02] Speaker A: Hello. [00:02:04] Speaker C: I'm so excited to have you on. Finally, finally. ZVE and I, we met in California when we did our Michael Jackson vacation. That's what I call it. [00:02:13] Speaker A: Yeah, me too. [00:02:16] Speaker C: And it was an amazing time. I'm actually, I'm holding this rock. This is from Neverland. [00:02:21] Speaker A: Isn't that. Aren't those the serpentine rocks? [00:02:23] Speaker C: It is serpentine, yes. [00:02:24] Speaker A: I think I might still be. Might. I think I might have one of those rocks in a bag somewhere in my. Either in my. Either in my bedroom, at my parents house or at my. In my college dorm. I don't know. [00:02:37] Speaker C: You'll find it. It'll. Or it'll find you when it's ready. [00:02:40] Speaker A: Oh yeah. Crystal's always find you. [00:02:42] Speaker C: Yes. So tell me, tell me your story. When did you first discover Michael Jackson? When did he come to you? [00:02:53] Speaker A: I was, I was 13 years old. There were a lot of challenges in my life at the time. My parents had divorced the previous year, and I distracted myself with things that weren't that great for me and used them to cope with the sadness and pain that was inside of me. I first discovered Michael. Well, didn't have a spiritual connection to him at the time, but I met a girl who had a picture of MJ on her Instagram account. I didn't know anything about him at the time, so I made kind of a careless joke, and she called me out for it. But I was 12, and I didn't really know better, so. Yeah. But then one day a thought came to me. What if that girl online knows something that I don't? So I decided to explore MJ for myself, and the rest is history. I cannot possibly describe how I felt when I first discovered him, and I still can't today. A complete feeling of love just washed over me, and I felt like I finally knew and experienced God for the first time. [00:03:59] Speaker C: Wow. That's amazing. I love that. That is like, a. An amazing description of how Michael just strikes you in the heart. [00:04:08] Speaker A: It very much. Very much is when I discovered spirituality for the first time, too, outside of, like, an organized context. [00:04:17] Speaker C: Yes, yes. And Michael is very spiritual, as we all know as fans. [00:04:24] Speaker A: I like that in a man. [00:04:26] Speaker C: Me too. Me too. Yes. [00:04:28] Speaker A: It's sexy. [00:04:29] Speaker C: It is, it is. And it shows that vulnerable side as well. So tell me, how does Michael inspire you? Or how has he inspired you throughout your life? [00:04:41] Speaker A: Man, Michael has inspired me in many different ways. One of those ways that he's inspired me is that he's, like, always been there for me whenever I feel miserable and sad. I always just listen to his music or just have. Or just meditate on his energy. He helps me to, like, do hard things. Yes. He's helped me to have difficult conversations. He's helped me to love, to unconditionally love others. He's helped me to quit making excuses and actually go for what I want. I love that. [00:05:16] Speaker C: What about your art? [00:05:18] Speaker A: Oh, yes. And that. That. My art, too. He has my muse for all the art that I create. My. I had a bit of a musical theater phase growing up and a choir phase, but over time, like, especially during the pandemic, I kind of realized I'm more. More of a visual artist. So I do like to write poetry and paint pretty much. [00:05:43] Speaker C: Mm. Nice. Awesome. Well, you have some amazing drawings, paintings, whatever you have sent me. I love all of them. The ones. [00:05:53] Speaker A: Thank you. And I sent one of I sent one of them to another one of our MJ friends as well. For Christmas. [00:05:58] Speaker C: Yes. Oh, that's so nice. Sure. She loved it. [00:06:03] Speaker A: She did. [00:06:07] Speaker C: Do you have ever have any Michael Jackson synchronicities where he just shows up? [00:06:13] Speaker A: I've had a lot of them, but I'm going to say just tell you one of them. [00:06:17] Speaker C: Okay. [00:06:18] Speaker A: A couple summers ago I was like visiting California and we were at Neverland Branch and we were looking up at the stars one night when we were there. Because that area, I think it's called the Santa Eunas Valley, has like very little light pollution, which makes for like fantastic stargazing. One of the people I was with stated that I can't remember who it was, but that person said that Michael would have been staring at these same stars like many decades ago. Something about that just like moved me to tears and I was like, I just busted out sobbing in front of everybody. I was just struggling at the time with my spirituality and I was sobbing and just wondering if he was actually really there for me. And one of the people said that he is there. And guess what happened? A shooting star went across the sky. Couldn't see it because there were tears in my eyes, but someone pointed it out to me and that's what I really felt. I really felt Michael's love. [00:07:28] Speaker C: Wow. [00:07:29] Speaker A: I'll always remember that. [00:07:31] Speaker C: Me too. I remember that. That was amazing experience. And it reminds me of the. What is it? The Smooth Criminal video. [00:07:42] Speaker A: It reminded me of like a poem about stars from dancing his rain. I can't remember the exact name of it. [00:07:47] Speaker C: Yeah, but I think there's a shooting star and it's either Moonwalker or like Smooth Criminal. I can't remember. [00:07:54] Speaker A: I. I haven't seen. I haven't seen Moonwalker in ages. [00:07:57] Speaker C: I know. Me either. We need to watch it. [00:07:59] Speaker A: I really, I really, really want a DVD player for when I get my own apartment someday. [00:08:07] Speaker C: Yes. Yes, you can. [00:08:09] Speaker A: Even though I'm a Gen Z woman, I do not. I don't like most of modern technology and kind of want a DVD player and I want like a TV that has a DVD player instead of like Netflix or Hulu. [00:08:23] Speaker C: Yeah, I kind of miss the old way of doing that. I used to have Michael Jackson DVDs. Like everything was on DVD. [00:08:31] Speaker A: I did watch. I did also have DVDs growing up. We did have Netflix as a child, but sometimes my parents would take. Would take me to the video store there. It was called Backstage DVD in my neighborhood. And we. It was like a local mom and pop DVD Store. We'd pick out movies to watch that night. [00:08:55] Speaker C: Yeah. See, it was fun. [00:08:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Sadly that that store has now closed, which is kind of a colossal loss. [00:09:04] Speaker C: No, it would be awesome if they would just bring stuff like that back. [00:09:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:09] Speaker C: Blockbuster. That's from. [00:09:10] Speaker A: We didn't go to Blockbuster. It was called Backstage dvd. [00:09:13] Speaker C: It was like Blockbusters for my age. [00:09:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, I remember seeing them around. [00:09:21] Speaker C: Awesome. Any other synchronicities you want to share? [00:09:23] Speaker A: I guess one time I was thinking about the allegations that kind of had some doubts about them. And I was. When I was taking the bus home from school that day, I saw a car driving past the bus that said the truth. The truth is still out there. [00:09:38] Speaker C: Wow. You guys got chills. Yeah. [00:09:42] Speaker A: Yeah. And that. That was like my confirmation that I would know. [00:09:47] Speaker C: Awesome. Well, what is your favorite Michael Jackson song if you had to pick one? [00:09:52] Speaker A: I can't pick. I suck at picking favorites, honestly. But if I had to, it would probably be. Do you know what the ET Storybook is? [00:10:01] Speaker C: Yes. [00:10:03] Speaker A: Okay. It's Someone in the Dark. [00:10:05] Speaker C: Nice. [00:10:05] Speaker A: It's just a comforting, beautiful song. [00:10:08] Speaker C: Yes, yes. [00:10:09] Speaker A: That has helped me through a lot in my life. [00:10:12] Speaker C: Yes. But that's an amazing song. [00:10:17] Speaker A: Yeah, it's beautiful. It's. It's just so relaxing to listen to. I listen to it because I, like, always struggled with anxiety and trying to sleep and I always struggled with anxiety and trying to fall asleep at night. So I. I sometimes turn on Michael's music like. Like a gentle song like Smile or Someone in the Dark to call me down. [00:10:42] Speaker C: Yeah. So I just had someone on the podcast that'll probably air before this one. Her name's Emily, and she told me about. I think it'll be in the episode too, there. I don't know if it will be, but if it's not, then I'm saying it now. But she told me about these videos on YouTube that is like pretty much Michael Jackson instrumentals. [00:11:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:04] Speaker C: I plays them in the background all the time. So I went on YouTube and found them. [00:11:08] Speaker A: And I don't know the exact channel is. [00:11:11] Speaker C: Well, there's a bunch of different ones too. People have made. A bunch of different channels have made them. But they're so much. They're so nice to just relax, to fall asleep, to study, to whatever, you know, Check it out. Check it out. [00:11:24] Speaker A: I will. [00:11:26] Speaker C: Do you have a favorite Michael Jackson video? [00:11:30] Speaker A: Okay, it would have. Okay, here's a lesser known one. It's pretty under. It's a pretty underrated one, too. It's Speed Demon. [00:11:38] Speaker C: Okay. [00:11:39] Speaker A: I Just. I just really love the claymation they use. It's kind of like the. The Rankin Bass holiday specials I like to watch every year around Christmas with, like, Rudolph the Reindeer and all that jazz. [00:11:52] Speaker C: Yes. Okay. [00:11:54] Speaker A: Yeah. I was kind of expecting Rudolph the Reindeer to appear in that video because the animation looks so similar. [00:12:01] Speaker C: I know, I know. I love that video. I love that song, too, but it makes me. [00:12:07] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah. I heard Michael is a shit driver. [00:12:14] Speaker C: I heard that, too. Like, he would. [00:12:16] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't drive either. It's scary. More money for me. [00:12:22] Speaker C: Yes, exactly. Right. You don't have to buy a car or pay for gas. Yeah. What do you want the world to know about Michael Jackson? [00:12:31] Speaker A: Okay. Focus more on who he is as a person and less on what other people might say about him, especially if it's, like, very negative. So. So just think. Just look at who he was as a person and look. Focus more on his art. [00:12:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:52] Speaker A: And less on his. On just trivial stuff like his appearance. [00:12:58] Speaker C: Right. [00:12:59] Speaker A: Another thing to think about is to look more into the spiritual aspect of his life. It doesn't matter what you believe in. What matters is that he has had a spiritual impact on people, and that's worth looking into. And maybe you might discover something about yourself, too, you haven't yet discovered before. [00:13:17] Speaker C: Right. He might just strike you in the heart. [00:13:21] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. Yeah. Celebrities are people, too, and Michael is a lot of things, but most importantly, he was human. [00:13:31] Speaker C: Yes, he was. And he was love. [00:13:36] Speaker A: Yes. We all should be. [00:13:38] Speaker C: Yes. I love how you said in the beginning when you're saying that he taught you or inspired you to learn how to love unconditionally. That was one of the things that he taught me as well. That's when someone asked me, like, what is it about Michael Jackson that, like, you know, you're so obsessed with or whatever. I'm just like, he taught me how to love, you know, how to love people unconditionally and love people for exactly who they are, not for who you know, know you would want them to be or anything like that. So. [00:14:15] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:14:17] Speaker C: So how does Michael continue to spread love in your world? [00:14:23] Speaker A: Michael continues to be a motivation for me to really, really do whatever it is I love to do and. And focus more on my own spiritual journey and less on that of other people. [00:14:37] Speaker C: That's awesome. Yeah. Was there anything else that you would like to say or talk about in regards to Michael? [00:14:45] Speaker A: That's all, thanks. [00:14:47] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, thank you so much, Svea, for being on the podcast. [00:14:51] Speaker A: Bye. [00:14:52] Speaker C: This is so much fun. It's all for love, everyone. We'll see you later. [00:14:55] Speaker A: Bye. [00:14:56] Speaker C: Bye, Sa.
