[00:02:00] Speaker A: Thank you for having me. Yay.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: We're so excited to talk about Michael.
[00:02:05] Speaker A: Yes, yes, yes, yes. It's just I love Michael so much and just having conversations with other Michael fans and knowing that I'm not alone, no pun intended, is just great.
[00:02:20] Speaker B: Yes, yes. I remember our first conversation we were having.
[00:02:24] Speaker A: We were.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: I think we talked for like an hour. We just kept talking.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: So good.
[00:02:32] Speaker A: Awesome.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Awesome. Well, I'm excited for you to tell everybody your Michael Jackson story.
So, you know, tell me how. How did he strike you in the heart?
[00:02:45] Speaker A: Oh, man. How did he strike me in the heart? Oh, my goodness. You know, I think back to 2001.
I was seven, about to be eight in November. So September 2001, Michael's 30th anniversary came on CBS.
And that for me, just opened up my world and love of Michael Jackson. And, you know, being A seven year old, I didn't realize that he had done so much.
So it was just that program, which I now in later years realize it was. They did a record, they did two recordings. So it was like, think they did one night, I think before September 11th and the second night. But I stayed up late, much to advice not stay up late and watch it, but I watched it and I just fell in love.
So you had that in September and then believe in October, Invincible came out and. And that was like the first Michael album that I had was given.
And I just listened to it and I became like, just enamored. And then, you know, back in 2000, early 2000s, VH1 would do Jackson's An American Dream. They would play it a lot.
And I, on the weekend would sit and watch the three hours, however long it was back then, watched the whole thing.
And I felt like I was a member of the Jackson family. Like I was Angel Jackson, you know, like, it was just great. I mean, from the casting, you had Shout out to Jason Weaver, you had Holly Robinson, Pete, you had so many.
Wiley Draper, I mean, you had so many great actors. Oh, Angela Bassett.
Everybody was in that movie that you can think of that word, like, was hot, you know, back in the day. And I was just like, I just would sit with my mouth agape like this awesome. And I just, how could I be a part? Like, I want to be a Jackson and it's so bad now. Like, I could sit and watch on YouTube clips of the movies, and I know the movie word for word, song for song, and line for line, and it's. It's kind of bad, but, you know, I love it. It's good, it's beautiful. And when I found out that Wiley, he died before he could see the filmed released, I think a couple months before it was. He either passed in 90, I think he passed in 93.
I was born in 93, so.
And I would look at him and I'm like, man, I would forget that he's playing Michael Jackson because he played it so well. Everybody played their part so well. You know what I mean?
[00:06:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: So it was just like you would just. It would be moments where he would stand or say something like, michael. And like, is he Michael, Michael Jackson?
[00:06:18] Speaker B: Right.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Because, oh my God, will the real Michael please stand up? Like he was born to play that role. And I think Jason had said in a podcast that, you know, each of the Jackson brothers, they selected who they wanted to play them. So Michael handpicked him and Jason to play you Know him and I'm like, you did a good job. You did a good job. Yeah, for sure. So that definitely, like, struck me in the heart. The anniversary, 30th anniversary. Invincible in the movie, you know, Really?
[00:07:00] Speaker B: I used to love when MTV and VH1 would have, like, those Michael Jackson weekends.
[00:07:06] Speaker A: Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
[00:07:08] Speaker B: I mean, I would record it on my VHR vhs. Sorry.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: Yes, yes. No, no, it's fine. Yes.
Watching. And also, I think about it, now we're talking about it, Thriller, that, that video. For me, I'm into, like, special effects makeup and all of that. So watching the behind the scenes and how he liked getting, you know, in the makeup and. And the transformation, it was just his wanting to be different and.
[00:07:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:38] Speaker A: And kind of not do the usual things that people would do that, like, you know what? Michael. Cool. You're cool.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I loved it. Yeah. He was a. He was a triple threat, for sure, with acting and singing and dancing, you know.
[00:07:53] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Well, he was more than that, too. Like, his energy, his spirit, like, yeah.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: Everything. It just. It. It just me. It makes me weep sometimes to know that he's no longer here and, you know, so many things and unfortunately, people, you know, try to dim his light, but, you know, you. You can't.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: Yeah, you.
[00:08:18] Speaker A: You can't. You know, he had such a strong light and he. He still affect. He still affects a lot of people.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: Yes, yes, he does. He continues to strike people on the heart.
[00:08:29] Speaker A: Yeah. For generations. You know, it's just like, thank God for YouTube because, you know, a lot of the newer generations of upcoming singers, dancers, actors, they could look at his film in his short films and look, and. But it's like you and I can say that we were around when he was around and what a time to be alive. Because a lot of the times you could see Michael in real time.
[00:08:59] Speaker B: Right.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: And it was just one of those things where it was like, wow.
[00:09:05] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:06] Speaker A: This man is one of the hardest working men in show business. If he doesn't like it, it's not going to be done until he puts it down the way he wants to get it done.
And when I was younger, I didn't understand that, but, like, now I understand it.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: He's like, this is my craft. This is my name. This is who I am here.
A thousand and one percent every time to anything that I do. So. Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:38] Speaker B: You know what I wanted to bring up? You said you were seven when you first.
[00:09:42] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:09:43] Speaker B: Saw him. Right.
That just as only because I did. I did Another podcast recording last night with someone and they were seven too. And then I was seven when I first discovered Michael. So there's, you know how 777 is his number, right?
[00:09:59] Speaker A: You know what? Sure. Yeah. You know what you see?
[00:10:03] Speaker B: Okay, I gotta bring it.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: You know, it's a, it's. The seven is a number of completion biblically. So that's interesting. You know, that's. Wow. Wow. It's no coincidence.
[00:10:17] Speaker B: No, not at all. There are no coincidences, that's for sure.
[00:10:22] Speaker A: Not at all.
[00:10:23] Speaker B: No. Yeah. Just had to bring that up. It was just like, I just realized, you know, when you said that, I was like, wow, A lot of people that I've talked to, it was like the seven year old time frame that they.
[00:10:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:36] Speaker B: Darken the Heart by Michael and I.
[00:10:38] Speaker A: Think too, to also add, you know, the eras in which we were born.
You know, I was born in the, guess you could say dangerous era. Even though that came out 92. I was born the following year. It was kind of like I said to myself as I was getting prepared for this, I was like, I think I was destined to, you know, be a Michael fan. Yeah, I don't.
It just, I guess it just, it worked out that way. A Michael Jackson family, Janet fan. You know, I'm a fan of them all, but it was like Michael was such a heavy hitter. Like, it just in the 90s was such a time where everybody was just so big, from music to sports. I mean, think about, you know, Michael Jordan and him and Michael worked together in the Jam video and how big that was that he was able, Mike was able to bring the two worlds together of sports because MJ was like the biggest basketball star in the 90s, one of them. And then Michael. So like Michael and Michael. And like, I love the ending of that video because, sorry, if I'm jumping ahead and that's the question, but I just thought about it.
I love how Michael is teaching Michael Jackson is teaching Michael Jordan how to moonwalk. And then Michael Jordan is teaching Michael Jackson how to, you know, shoot how to play ball. And it's the dopest thing you could ever see.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: Right.
[00:12:05] Speaker A: I love the, you know, the parallels between the two.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: Yes, I love that. So then Jam is your favorite music video?
[00:12:16] Speaker A: I would say my favorite music video because I was again, as I was getting ready for this, I was watching YouTube, watching Michael.
I just saw Remember the Time and I don't know if you've seen it recently, but they've kind of restored it. It's kind of Like, I don't know if it's in 4K, but it's like an upgraded, like, kind of version is clearer. And I was like, wow, this really is amazing. Like it.
So, yeah. Remember the Time is my favorite. Okay. Video. I think it was the first Michael video, if I can recall, that I saw growing up. And I was like, I want to be a man.
Can I be Iman?
Let's. Can I be Iman? And can, like, Eddie be. You know, I mean.
And I'm a lover of film, too. So I. I went. And I kind of went down a rabbit hole and I found out that John Singleton, director of Boys in the Hood, Poetic Justice Garden, you know, he directed the short film.
[00:13:24] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: Yeah. So when I found that out, I was like, oh, that's cool. And what a Small World. He, you know, he directed Janet in Poetic Dresses and he did Michael's video.
And I love Remember the Time because it's just so.
From the dancing to. Again, you got another thing where the casting is just impeccable. Eddie Murphy, Imani, Magic Johnson.
[00:13:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:54] Speaker A: You know, a lot of you got some Soul Train dancers in there. Josie Harris, you have a team of Robinson doing the choreography. Like. Yeah.
You know, so.
Yeah, that. And Michael just looks gorgeous in that video. Throughout the whole thing, it just, you know, his smile. Yeah, smile for me. Every time I would tell everybody, I was like, love his smile. Yeah, yeah. His was the one that, you know.
[00:14:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And gold is his color. Like, gold.
[00:14:25] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:14:26] Speaker B: Like, that was like. And. And, you know, to get like, woo, woo again. That's like his aura, you know.
[00:14:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: No matter what, he was like a golden, you know, healing light in the world.
[00:14:39] Speaker A: I can see that. I could see that for sure. I could definitely see that. And yeah. So remember the Time. I mean, I got a couple of them, but remember the Time is like my top out of my late top five.
Excuse me. And then you have Bad, which I love, which again, going down rabbit holes. And, you know, Michael always had a message with his short films and his music.
So bad.
I know we were. We had the conversation before, but, you know, it's. He's taking inspiration from the story of Edmund Perry, who was at the time in the 80s. He was a high school student.
He went to Exler Academy up in, I believe, Massachusetts. And unfortunately he was killed and by a.
By officer. And, you know, it was up war and everything like that. So that's what Bad is based off of.
And when I found that out, I said, Michael is a genius.
[00:15:55] Speaker B: Wow. Yeah.
[00:15:56] Speaker A: Michael is a Genius. Like, wow.
[00:15:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:01] Speaker A: Whoa.
You know, I had to stop. And, like, you know, you listen to the music, you see the videos, but, like. But the message and. And what he's talking about, a lot of people, like, like, listen to what he's saying, you know?
[00:16:14] Speaker B: Right.
[00:16:16] Speaker A: You know, he.
[00:16:16] Speaker B: He.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: He knew. He knew what he was doing, you know?
[00:16:20] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, he did.
[00:16:22] Speaker A: Yeah. He definitely knew what he was doing. And then when it goes. If you watch the extended version, which I love, you know, he's like, you ain't. You ain't nothing. You ain't nothing.
And then it's like black and white, and then it goes to color. That's like, wow.
And he just standing there in his black leather, and then they got the spurs and then the little. I think they're bulls on the back of his. Of his shoes.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:51] Speaker A: Looking so fierce. I'm just like. I wanted a bad jacket so bad. I was like, I need that jacket in my life. I need my drink. I need that jacket in my life. I really need a bad jacket. But, yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, bad. Remember the time. What else? There's so many others, but yeah, those, like, top two.
[00:17:12] Speaker B: Love it. Awesome. Yeah. All right, so now that I know your favorite videos, what's your favorite song or songs? I know it's really hard to pick one.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: Favorite songs. Baby songs. Baby songs. Okay.
Want to be starting something.
[00:17:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:17:30] Speaker A: Heal the world, heaven can't wait.
Bed.
And that's all I can think of right now because it's so many of them when I. Yeah, I know.
[00:17:44] Speaker B: I hear you. Hear you. And sometimes it's like, depending on what kind of mood you're in or what era you're in in your life.
[00:17:52] Speaker A: Yes, yeah, yes.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: What you're going for.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Exactly. Because Michael has so many songs for so many different moods and moments in people's lives. It's just like, okay, what am I feeling today? Trying to think.
I feel like leave me alone or invincible or, you know, I don't know. You know, whatever.
[00:18:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:11] Speaker A: Whatever the mood calls for, you know?
[00:18:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Whatever the mood. I'm. I'm feeling the. Keep the faith now.
[00:18:17] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Beautiful, Beautiful arrangement. Oh, and another one. I'm thinking, see, will you be there is beautiful.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh. Yeah, yeah.
[00:18:31] Speaker A: Free Willy, you know, and this beautiful coral arrangement.
And, oh, I would say man in the mirror, too, you know.
Classic is definitely a classic. For sure. I love. I. I had discovered his Grammy performance of it.
I was like, man, this dude was going on acapella for, like, Five minutes, just singing his butt off. And I was like, no, he caught the holy Ghost at one point because he spun and he was like. And, like, dropped to the floor. And it's like, oh, yeah, get it, Michael.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:19:12] Speaker A: Better make a change. And like, Errol Coley, he, like, he came to him, put his hand on his back. Like, it's okay. Like, you gotta get up. You gotta get up. He did a James Brown, but James Brown used to do. You know, he dropped and then, you know.
Oh, man.
Like, okay. Mr. Brown didn't go. Oh, come back. Yeah, yeah, definitely, Mike. Yeah. Had them James Brown moments sprinkled. Excuse me. In that performance. For sure. So. Yeah.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: Yeah. That was a great performance.
[00:19:48] Speaker A: Yes. I could watch it, but I'm getting tired of it. I love it. It's like my favorite live performances.
[00:19:55] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: And then I think when he had gotten honored, it was. Was it Daryl Coley and Patti LaBelle again? Well, Daryl Coley again. And then Patty, they were singing will you be there live? And I had watched it recently, and I just was crying. I'm like, yeah, Little Raven Simone was part of my. Like, oh, my goodness, this is so 90s. I love it, you know, so.
Yeah. Gosh.
[00:20:25] Speaker B: It doesn't like it. Just. When you watch the videos, it doesn't feel like it was so long ago.
[00:20:31] Speaker A: No. You know, like, not at all. Not at all.
It's. It seems almost like yesterday, you know? Like, you can watch a lot of Michael Jackson things and you go, you could say to yourself, I was there. Or, I remember this time. Or, you know. Yeah, I know where I was when this happened.
[00:20:52] Speaker B: Right.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: So, yeah. Like, it just. It was yesterday. Like, it's almost.
You know, you can reach out and touch.
[00:21:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:00] Speaker A: And remember. And remember those. Where you were when you were.
[00:21:03] Speaker B: Right. It still feels like he's still here, you know?
[00:21:06] Speaker A: Yes. And I. And that's what I love about the MJ community, is that we keep his spirit alive.
[00:21:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:14] Speaker A: Every chance that we get through sharing his music, sharing his quotes, sharing, you know, his love of food.
You know, the style. Definitely the style, for sure.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:30] Speaker A: That. You know, you have a lot of artists now, from Beyonce to Chris Brown to Usher, that are heavily inspired by Michael.
[00:21:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: And Janet and the Jacksons all together, you know.
[00:21:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Everyone as a whole, just inspired by that family.
[00:21:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: It's. It's in their music. I.
You know, I don't know if you're on TikTok, but, you know, Chris Brown is on tour right now, and I'll send you Actually, the. The clip that I saw, like, he has a little tribute or something in his show. Yes. Yeah, he does. I think it's. What is it?
Change or. I forgot what. I. I forgot what song it is. But he does, like, the fedora and, you know, the. You know, the Billie Jean kind of nod to Michael in his show, and I'm just like, see, I love it. And Beyonce always, you know, paying tribute to Mike, even at the 30th anniversary, to bring that back up again. When Destiny's Child performed, they did Boot Delicious and they did, like, the. The breakdown of the song, and they came out like Michael with the fedora. And, you know.
[00:22:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:49] Speaker A: You know, and they did the pose, you know, when Michael would, like, stand. You know, I can't do it. But, yeah, it's just like.
Yeah. So everybody. Omarion, every. Everybody is inspired by Michael, so.
[00:23:02] Speaker B: Yes.
That's great. It's great to see it. Yeah. Because, like. Like you said, it just keeps them alive, you know, Keeps them.
And then, yeah. You know, bringing out the great and everyone.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Exactly. From the little babies, you know, go on. On Tick Tock and Instagram.
I love it with the vinyls. I'm like, what do you know about vinyls?
And Smooth Criminal and them doing the moonwalk and it's just like.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: I know, right?
[00:23:32] Speaker A: I can't believe it. They're like four and five, three years old, listening to Michael doing the spins and kicks, and he is. And all of that, you know, like, it's.
[00:23:42] Speaker B: It's so great. I. I pray that they continue that, like, throughout.
[00:23:46] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:23:46] Speaker B: You know.
[00:23:47] Speaker A: Yes.
It's just. It's. His spirit will never die, you know, his spirit will never die, and we just gotta keep his movement alive, you know? I'm so proud of his children. I'm so proud of Prince and Blanket and Paris and, you know, especially Prince with the, you know, Heal LA Foundation.
And I'm just looking at him, I'm like, I remember when you were born number one.
[00:24:19] Speaker B: I know, right?
[00:24:21] Speaker A: Your father would be so proud of you.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:24:25] Speaker A: Like, it just. It brings me to tears sometimes. I'm like, man, he would be so proud, you know, proud of all of his children. But, yeah, I'm glad that they're doing that. They're doing a King of Popcorn and.
[00:24:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: Even though I can't get there, you know, I watch the YouTubers.
I go there and they. And they film and it's just like. Oh, like they take you on a virtual tour and it's just like five or six times and it's just like one day. I can't wait to get there so I can just. First of all, I don't know how I'm going to compose myself.
I don't know if I'm gonna cry because I'm like, yes, you probably will.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: It's okay because you won't be the only one.
[00:25:09] Speaker A: I was taking pictures everywhere and oh man, I, I, I wouldn't know what to do. I wouldn't know what to do, but I'll be so blessed to be there.
Wow, this is, this is awesome.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: So, yeah, I would definitely love to go to one of those someday.
[00:25:24] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm like, they need to take it on tour or something like that. Like mini, like pop ups, you know, that would be cool.
Like that.
[00:25:32] Speaker B: Well, tell me, how has Michael inspired you throughout your life?
[00:25:37] Speaker A: Oh, well, as you said in my intro, I am a little bit of a singer.
I, I used to sing back in my younger years, you know, when Michael had passed.
I was in the ninth grade, I believe, going into night. I think I was a freshman in high school.
So me and my friend who were on a choir at my school, where we went, we, we told the music teacher, Michael, Michael said, michael has passed. We need to do something for our spring show. We would do a spring show every May. And you know, we could pick the theme, of course, with teacher's approval. So we decided to do Remember the Time. Do you like, remember the time? So we did a whole spring show inspired by Michael Jackson.
And let me tell you, that was not easy.
[00:26:37] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sure.
[00:26:38] Speaker A: At all. You know, he really taught me and still teaches me to just keep on pushing. Keep on pushing. You know, having a disability, you know, sometimes it can get hard. You know, some days it's physically, it's like, okay, I could do it. I could do it. I could do it. I could do it. I could do it. I could do it. What would Michael do? He would keep pushing. He would keep pushing and just mom and, and, and block out all the negative energies, you know, the haters or, you know, so that wasn't, that wasn't easy vocally and just I, I think also tutor inspired me to vocally, you know, keep going.
[00:27:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:27] Speaker A: And put my, put my own spin on things. Vocally.
[00:27:31] Speaker B: Nice. Nice.
[00:27:32] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:27:33] Speaker B: Do you still sing?
[00:27:35] Speaker A: Yes, I do to myself a lot, you know, Kaylee in choir. But yeah, I sing for fun now. You know, just sing college, you know, and stuff like that. So. But, but Michael's, Michael's catalog, vocally.
[00:28:00] Speaker B: Easy.
[00:28:01] Speaker A: It's not Easy. It's fun. But it, it, it. It's definitely. Excuse me. It's not easy, so.
[00:28:08] Speaker B: No, not at all. I used to. I love to do karaoke, and I'm an okay singer. Like, I'm not great, but I can hold tune because I used to do choir and stuff like that too. And I love.
But people would be like, you love Michael Jackson so much. Do Michael Jackson song. I'm like, no, I'm like, that will sound like.
[00:28:30] Speaker A: Oh, no, no, I mean, it, it, you know.
But I do it.
[00:28:35] Speaker B: Like, I'd be like, well, if I'm going to do it, then everybody's going to come up and sing it with me because, you know.
[00:28:38] Speaker A: Right, exactly.
But I'm like, Michael. And I'm kind of like, I have Michaelisms. And when I sing, I, I do.
It's, it's funny, but it's not. I do karaoke for practice, you know, And I'm very. If I'm singing, like, for real, I'm very serious. And it, it's got to be on point, right? And if I'm singing with people, it gotta be tight. It can't be all harmony, no, nothing. We're gonna do it. We're gonna do it and we're gonna let it sizzle as he said. And this is it. You gotta let it sizzle.
[00:29:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: Wait for me. I, I. What did he say? He said, I, I, I bring it in. You don't do that. Let me just.
Yeah, exactly. So it, it's.
Yeah. No, you don't want to sing Carry over with me because I'm like, oh, no. Like, this is awesome.
[00:29:31] Speaker B: That's all right. I did it with a serious people, too.
[00:29:35] Speaker A: It's. It's weird. I have such an ear. It's. And I can tell, like, somebody told me, oh, you have perfect pitch. I said, I do.
Because I get, like. If I hear a song and if it's off by, like, the slightest note, I'm like, but I can't. Like, I can't read music. Like.
[00:29:52] Speaker B: Okay, I can't either. Yeah.
[00:29:53] Speaker A: But I can sing. And I could sing, like, in tune and key. And I could, you know, if you tell me, oh, what's this on? Like, if it's a Michael song, I could sing in the key in which the song. Dang, that sounds exactly like.
I don't know where it comes from. But if I hear, like a certain. If it's like a Michael song, it's like, this is off. Where's the other version? I'll find the other Version. I'm like, okay, this is better.
You know, this is better. This is better for my ears. And it was funny. When I was in college, I had a professor. I took a vocal singing class for an extra, you know, a. An extra.
[00:30:33] Speaker B: Like a credit or. Not extra credit, but.
[00:30:35] Speaker A: Yeah, credit, but an elective. I couldn't. An elective. There you go. Oh, my gosh. Okay. Extra credits.
It was just an elective. I took it. It was vocal one and singing and vocal two.
Singing, too. And it was two parts to it. So I took both of them and my professor shout out to Professor Lynn Floyd in Mitchell College. She taught us how to listen to music but isolate certain sounds and certain parts in the music.
So when I listen to music, I can. My ear has been trained to do that, so I can isolate certain things or hear certain unique things in a song, and I can't turn it off. I can't turn it off to save me. I'm like, I, you know, thing, though. I can't.
[00:31:24] Speaker B: I think Michael did that too. You know, like, that's why he. That's how he created music. It was like he would, like, you know, I think he even said at some point. I don't know if it was an interview or something, but, like, pay attention to the different parts of the song. Not just, like, the, you know, the main beat or the.
[00:31:42] Speaker A: Right.
[00:31:44] Speaker B: That taught me too, because, like, he introduced me to dancing at the age of seven.
So when I would dance and when I would. When I finally, like, got older and got into choreography, I would hear the different parts of the song too. And it wouldn't just be, like, what everybody else heard, you know, I would hear, like, the little, like, I don't know, bell or something, you know?
[00:32:05] Speaker A: Right.
[00:32:05] Speaker B: And, like, would do, like, a sharp move or a pop at that time or something like that, you know.
[00:32:10] Speaker A: Right.
[00:32:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:11] Speaker A: See, that's good. I'm a dancer in my mind.
[00:32:14] Speaker B: Right.
[00:32:15] Speaker A: I'm a dancer in my heart.
I, I, I guess you could say I'm interpretive dancer in my mind.
Like watching. Watching Janet and Pleasant Principal. I'm thinking I'm getting.
[00:32:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:32] Speaker A: Horrible. Okay. I'm gonna just stick to. Right. I'm gonna just stick to singing because dancing and me and my, you know, hand. Eye coordination in my body is not working out well. But, you know, that's. That's interesting how you said that, you know, with the dancing aspect of it, that, like, you were able to connect certain parts of the song to physical movement. Yeah, you know, that's. That's Good. That's really good. But, yeah, I'm a. I'm a dancer in my heart.
I'm a singer in my heart.
I was like, I want the fame. I went to, you know, fame in my mind. You know what I mean? And it's just so interesting. Like, when I went to see MJ the Musical, you know, they say, oh, don't sing along with the actors. It'll distract them. But was singing along and dancing the whole time.
I can't help it. I'm like, it's an ending musical.
[00:33:26] Speaker B: I know. I get so mad when, like, I go to, like, any, like, Michael Jackson shows, you know, like, artists and stuff like that, and people don't get up and dance like it's a freaking concert, like, right.
How. How boring are you just sitting there watching someone who's portraying Michael who has the best music in the world.
[00:33:45] Speaker A: World.
[00:33:46] Speaker B: And you're supposed to move your body.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: To it, like, Exactly. I'm like, okay, it's not Michael, but they're doing their, you know, best and not a lot of good, you know, people that do those shows, and it's just. Yeah, awesome. You know, I'm like, we know what it was. But, you know, excuse me. Now that he's not here, it's just like, okay, you know, take it for as you want. I. I think speaking of sounds real quick, he. He used his heartbeat. I think he recorded his heartbeat for his criminal.
[00:34:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:34:20] Speaker A: I was like, okay.
Talk about living.
Yeah, Living instrument, like, exactly.
Wow. This is insane.
Yeah.
[00:34:35] Speaker B: And that's like when he would make the different, like, noises with his mouth, you know, when he would.
[00:34:39] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: That guy Brad, I guess, in the middle of the night that would, like, create the music. He would be like, this part sounds like this. And like, you know.
[00:34:46] Speaker A: Right. Yeah, right, right.
[00:34:49] Speaker B: He heard those different parts of the song.
[00:34:52] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:34:53] Speaker B: Might not have known how to play that instrument, but he could tell you what it sounded like.
[00:34:57] Speaker A: Just like James Brown in the movie Get on up, you know, he didn't know. He wasn't a trained.
You know, we didn't know how to play an instrument.
But he knew what he wanted it to sound like.
[00:35:11] Speaker B: Right.
[00:35:11] Speaker A: And it's like, what is this? It's a. It's a saxophone. No, this is a drum. What do you got there? You got a drum. Everybody has drums. This is what I want you to do.
Yeah, Come on. Exactly how he would want it. You know, what he heard. So, you know. You know, Mike was inspired by James and.
[00:35:33] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:35:33] Speaker A: Yeah. I remember when James got that Honor. And Michael. It was on bet, and Michael came out and gave him that award. And that was a big thing, I think it was. When was it? I feel, like, so old. Like, going back. This is back to 2000, 2003, I think it's about 10. And I saw that in real time, and I was like, wow. Two legends just giving each other flowers. And I remember seeing Michael crying and at the time, not understanding really like he was. That was his inspo, you know, inspiration.
[00:36:15] Speaker B: Well, you said you're a poet, too, so does he inspire you? Do you write poetry?
[00:36:20] Speaker A: Yes, poetry, you know, about the world in which we live. And I only really write when I have something to say. You know, if something is really, you know, I guess you could say gnawing at me or something really tugging at me. I'm gonna write about it, you know, and like, anything, poetry is music. So, you know, I'm musical in a way, so. Yeah, definitely.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: My poems are inspired by Michael. I mean, I think about Earth Song and how beautiful that is, you know, and when he breaks it down, you know, everything that's happening to the world. And it's like, honestly, like, when I was younger and he would say, the world is sick. And I didn't understand.
I wasn't really on that wave yet.
My consciousness of the environment wasn't as. You know, I wasn't as aware as I was as I am now. I should say. I'm sorry.
But now I'm just like, he was right.
He was right.
[00:37:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:25] Speaker A: Yeah, he was definitely right. And, you know, things are changing. The environment is changing.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: We.
[00:37:31] Speaker A: We gotta. We gotta heal the world. And I. I don't want to sound, you know, punny or anything, make these puns, but, I mean, it's. It's true. And we gotta save the world and make it a better place for our kids, you know, because we only get one world. And he was. He was definitely, you know, right when it came to that.
[00:37:51] Speaker B: Yeah, no, a lot of the stuff is still relevant to this day, so.
[00:37:56] Speaker A: Yeah. And that. And that's what makes me sometimes get emotional. It's like all of the stuff that he's talking about is still going on.
[00:38:05] Speaker B: Right. We still haven't changed it.
[00:38:09] Speaker A: Yeah. And I think he would just shake his head, you know. Shake his head. Yeah, he would shake his head.
[00:38:16] Speaker B: Well, I think really the message, though, there is that we might not be able to make a change on, like, a global scale.
[00:38:24] Speaker A: Right.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: But it's to start with yourself, right?
[00:38:28] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:38:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:29] Speaker A: And connecting with other people such as yourself.
[00:38:32] Speaker B: Right.
[00:38:33] Speaker A: You know, no matter where we come from, no matter what color you are, you know, we're all in this world together, you know, and, like, he always would say it's about love and we're to love one another, you know? Yeah, his brother said it too. You know, Tito. Rest in peace. To Tito. You know, into love.
He was. He was all about love. He was all about love, all about peace, all about joy. I mean, his philanthropic efforts, you know, him going to hospitals, visiting sick children, it just. I mean, again, bring up the 30th anniversary when I remember as a kid watching that montage of him visiting places and meeting with different, you know, royalty, Princess Diana, you know, different royal people.
And I just went, wow.
He, you know, he really made his mark on this world as best as he could. We got to keep that alive.
[00:39:36] Speaker B: Yes. Yes.
[00:39:37] Speaker A: Gotta keep it going, keep it strong.
[00:39:39] Speaker B: Definitely. What do you want the world to know about Michael Jackson?
[00:39:44] Speaker A: That he was a beautiful spirit.
That he would. Just wonderful.
Again, like I said earlier, that smile, his smile could emanate, radiate so much light through so much dark.
And I miss him and I try not to cry, but there's only one Michael Jackson. There's no other. No, he can't. He can't be replaced. He can't be replaced. Duplicated.
He's just Mike.
[00:40:27] Speaker B: Yep, Just Mike.
[00:40:28] Speaker A: Just Mike. I want to be like Mike.
We are.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: We are. We have a heart.
[00:40:35] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:40:36] Speaker B: Like Mike.
[00:40:36] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. Yeah, we do. We do. And, you know, it's going to inspire generations. We got to keep that a lot, too. Telling the kids, this is Michael. This is the Jackson. These are, you know, this is what he did.
[00:40:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Let's follow in his footsteps.
[00:40:53] Speaker A: Yes.
And make the world better.
[00:40:57] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:40:58] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:40:59] Speaker B: How does Michael continue to spread love in your world today?
[00:41:06] Speaker A: Through his music.
The whiz man.
Him as a scarecrow again. I just. Sometimes I just weep like he was a scarecrow.
Just, you know, watching that, you know, brand new day, you know, when they say, can you feel a brand new day? And just the happiness that he had, you know, it just.
Movie is just. That movie is just great overall. But Michael and you can't win no matter what, you know, Like, I sing that a lot at the top of my lungs. Yeah.
[00:41:45] Speaker B: You know.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, good music.
[00:41:49] Speaker B: Is there anything else that you would like to talk about?
[00:41:50] Speaker A: And I had something on this. Oh, Heaven Can't Wait. Hold on. That's. That's it.
That song is not talked about enough for me on the Invincible album.
That Is one of my favorite songs off of that album. That album, let's say all together, it's just a no skip, right?
[00:42:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:15] Speaker A: They. They don't talk about heaven. Can't wait. Tell the angels no, I don't want to let my baby I don't want to leave my baby alone Right.
I'm like Michael singing.
I'm like, whoa. You know. Oh, my goodness. I love that record. I love it.
[00:42:34] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:42:37] Speaker A: Butterflies. Oh, yes.
[00:42:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:40] Speaker A: Marsha Ambrosias, local assassin.
[00:42:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:42:46] Speaker A: Vocals. I, I call people. I can say really good. Vocal sledge. That was vocal sledge.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: I love it. Yeah.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: If you listen to the Fletry album, their first album, they have a demo that she did of Butterflies. And really, it's. Yeah. Because I think she wrote it.
I think.
[00:43:03] Speaker B: Yeah, I think you're right. Yeah.
[00:43:05] Speaker A: Yeah. So, yeah.
Vocal sledge.
Vocal sledge. For real.
[00:43:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:12] Speaker A: It's a beautiful St. Marja. I love it.
Oh, and I saw Janet before I knew this. Awesome.
[00:43:21] Speaker B: Yeah, Janet's great concert.
[00:43:23] Speaker A: He's great. I love her. I was fangirl, like, yeah, she's. She's amazing. She's amazing. Have you ever seen any of the Jacksons?
[00:43:35] Speaker B: I haven't. I was going, I was going to go see them in Atlantic City.
[00:43:41] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:43:41] Speaker B: Right before Tito, he was like, it was like a, it wasn't long after that that the date was so.
[00:43:51] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:43:52] Speaker B: Like right before they were supposed to be here.
[00:43:54] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:43:57] Speaker B: So I never got to see them. I don't remember if they came back after.
I probably missed it. I had a lot going on in life.
[00:44:04] Speaker A: Okay. I know I can sing you the link because I know someone that recorded when they, they came back, but I think it was one of Tito's sons. It was either tarot.
I, I, I'm really bad with, like, kind of that took Tito's place and they had a place for Tito, like his, his bowler hat and his guitar.
[00:44:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: Over on the side. And it was, it was, it was heart wrenching, you know, just to think, you know. Wow.
[00:44:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:39] Speaker A: When I, when I found out Tito pass, I was just, I was shocked. I said what?
[00:44:43] Speaker B: I know. That was definitely.
[00:44:45] Speaker A: I was like, no, this can't be true. And it was true.
I, I prayed that it wasn't. But when people were confirming it and then I think the brothers, you know, the rest of the family confirmed it. I was like, oh, man.
[00:44:59] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:45:03] Speaker A: Can't take it.
[00:45:04] Speaker B: Yeah. What about Ms. Jackson, though? How old is she now? 97.
[00:45:09] Speaker A: Oh, miss, oh, Ms. Catherine.
Oh, she has to be in her 90s now, and God bless her. Oh, all that. She's. Listen, I know how old she is, but I think. In her 90s now, right?
[00:45:22] Speaker B: Oh, she's definitely in her 90s. I'm just. I think.
[00:45:24] Speaker A: Right.
[00:45:25] Speaker B: Because my grandmother is 97, so I feel like the same age.
[00:45:29] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:45:30] Speaker B: And I might be wrong, so don't come at me if I'm wrong.
[00:45:33] Speaker A: You're fine. I love this Catherine.
[00:45:35] Speaker B: Everybody walked in this.
[00:45:36] Speaker A: Right, right. Exactly. Like.
[00:45:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:39] Speaker A: Ms. Catherine is just.
Oh, God. God bless him, really.
[00:45:43] Speaker B: Because God bless that woman.
[00:45:44] Speaker A: Gone through so much.
[00:45:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: And she's such a pillar of strength and just love.
And Mike was her baby, you know, Tito was her baby, too. And it just.
My heart. I know, goes out to Ms. Katherine and the whole family, you know.
[00:46:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:08] Speaker A: Everybody. So. And I'm just so excited for this movie to come out and, you know, see what they really touch on and how they touch on Mike's life.
[00:46:20] Speaker B: I think it's going to be great.
[00:46:22] Speaker A: I can't wait. When I saw the. When Prince had made mention of it that, you know, Jafar is going to play Michael, I was just like, oh, okay, okay. Keep it in the family. Like they did with Jackson's An American Dream. Because you. You had Jermaine's son playing him.
[00:46:41] Speaker B: Right.
[00:46:42] Speaker A: So it's kind of all in the family. And, you know.
[00:46:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:46] Speaker A: You got Coleman Domingo, who's in Philly, who's gonna kill it.
I'm ready. I'm ready. Ready for the singing and the tears and all that comes with it.
[00:46:56] Speaker B: Exactly. Gonna bring a whole, like, package. We're gonna be right, right, right. Lots of dancing in the aisles.
[00:47:05] Speaker A: Right, right, right, right, right. Like, I just need a minute to compose myself, you know, going from moonwalk to tears. I. You know, we need it. We need it. I'm ready. I'm ready. Ready. Just bring it all our.
Please. We're ready.
[00:47:21] Speaker B: Don't change the date again.
[00:47:22] Speaker A: Right. Don't change the date again. We need a trailer. To anybody listening? We need a trailer, please. Because I.
I need something to hold me over so. So that I could get even more excited. Because I'm excited, but, like, my excitement is like, okay, is it out yet? Like, are we Right?
[00:47:42] Speaker B: Because once we get the trailer. Once we get the trailer, we know it's coming for sure. Faux show.
It's coming. So come on.
[00:47:50] Speaker A: But we don't have a trailer. We don't know what's going on. And we're just speculating at this point.
[00:47:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:47:56] Speaker A: What could happen.
I mean, look, we can get the MJJ imprint. You know, back in the day, he had to like, imprint with the, the. His shoes, his loafers.
Give us that. Can we get a screenshot or something?
That's what I want. Something a he. A hiccup, something. Can we get a glove Shamon? Come on, Glove Shamon.
Shone.
Shamon, please. Shone Shamon. Sh, sh.
You know, I'll kick with the wrong leg. Like he told Chris. He's like, chris, you're kicking with the wrong leg. That's wrong leg. That's my micro impression. But this is like, yeah, I'll kick with the wrong leg. I'll do what I have to do, but I need. I just. Please, to the, to the Michael fans, please.
[00:48:43] Speaker B: We are always wanting to do something Michael related, so please.
[00:48:47] Speaker A: Exactly. And it's not that I don't like AI, but I don't want to see an AI trailer or fanny. I. I want to see a trailer. Give us a clip. Because I know they did release something at a film festival and it got like a standing ovation. So they, they have something in the archives here, but they're not releasing it to us, which is a kind of unfair.
So we'll see. I. I just want something to hold me over. Just give me a little snack, little taste of it. Please, I beg. I don't. I don't want to beg, but please, please.
I. I don't know, because I'm tired of talking about it. People are like, looking at me like crazy, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, Michael Jackson movie. Yeah, yeah. No, it really is happening. You just haven't got a trailer.
[00:49:36] Speaker B: Right?
[00:49:37] Speaker A: We just need confirmation. So it'll definitely be confirmation. Yeah, I think, hopefully.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: Oh, hopefully.
Well, it's been an absolute pleasure chatting with you again.
[00:49:49] Speaker A: Yes, yes. We need to do it again.
[00:49:52] Speaker B: Yes, we do. Yes, we do. Thank you so much for being here.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: You're welcome. Thank you for having me.
Thank you, everyone.
[00:50:00] Speaker B: Yeah, thank you, everyone for listening, everybody.
[00:50:03] Speaker A: Yes, thank you.
[00:50:05] Speaker B: Yeah, and remember, it's all for love, always.
[00:50:09] Speaker A: Yes, thank you.
[00:50:11] Speaker B: Bye.
Sa.
